This is my girlfriend favorite coffee place in LA, I’m from Italy and I was visiting her and she wanted to let me try it as well. I have to admit that this place is great and coffee very very good!l and their croissants as well! Vibes are great and the atmosphere as well, nice interiors and wide backyard next to the big parking lot where people can work and enjoy a chat under a tent. I’m looking forward to go back there when I’ll be in LA again!
First time here in December 2023: see below for reviews.
The cappuccino was five dollars ($6; including tips). Cash was accepted
Updated in January 2024: see below.
Thank you for consultation on the variety of loose teas on the menu here. I ended up getting a cappuccino because my specific taste in tea was not on offer.
I was very happy with customer service nevertheless.
Coffee at Alana’s is decent, the drip blend starts out mellow and nutty but ends on a more sour note as you get further into the cup. They roast their own beans in house though so it’s nice to know that the brew is fresh.
This location has plenty of parking both on the street and in their dedicated lot. Not only is there lots of parking, but the actual shop itself has lots of sitting options from the front patio, to the inside, to the back patio area.
Only come here if Coffee Connection is full.
The coffee shop as a physical location and decor has charm. Sadly, that is where the charm ends.
The customer service is lacking.
There is a bit of entitle barista attitudes here as well.
Feel free to give a smaller tip to the barista as that I believe that they are clearly used to it in their surely sort of behaviors that are given to me as I entered.
When I arrived, I waiting for my order to be taken until the barista could finish his conversation with another barista. Additionally, when I asked for clarity on a menu item I was blankly stared at and did not get a response. I repeated my question again, “Excuse, what is the Piratate’s Chai, exactly?” I didn’t get an answer back for a second time. Which is strange to ask a person a question twice and to get a blank stare in return. I then simply said to the barista, “May I have a Pirate’s Chai, please?” he then rang up the item for me and I paid with a card using the front facing payment machine.
I was coming here to do studying for my finals in college. The cafe, Coffee Connection, is just a block away and it was completely full. Seeing that this location was nearby, I came hee. As I sat at a table, I saw that there was an outlet nearby. I plugged in my computer to charge my compute. Soon after they turned off the electricity to the outlet. And without mentioning anything about it either.
Additionally, the Pirate’s Chai is a mixture of Matcha Green Tea and some chai with milk. It was okay but not worth the $7.00 in price.
This is a come and go location. They don’t seem to prefer or appreciate people who come here to study.
TL;DR - This is just a fast paced cafe where you come and go. Don’t stick around. Don’t expect kindness, eye-contact or conversation. It is just coffee and it just money and it not much else here. I sat for over an hour and witnessed the same sort of behavior by the same barista towards others. Skip this place.
The outdoor seating here is surprisingly peaceful, despite the cafe's location right on Venice Boulevard. It's a great place to unwind, whether you're looking to study or just relax. There aren't too many indoor seats available, so the outdoor option is your best bet.
One highlight is the quality of the coffee; I tried their origin coffee, and it was pretty good. The cafe also boasts a nice assortment of plants, which adds to the pleasant ambiance. An additional bonus is the lack of annoying bugs or flies buzzing around, making your outdoor experience more enjoyable.
One standout feature is the reliable and fast Wi-Fi. Unlike some cafes that limit website access or have sluggish connections, this place keeps you connected without any hassle. So, if you're looking for a serene outdoor setting, good coffee, and dependable internet, this cafe is worth a visit.
However, keep in mind that the indoor seating is limited, and it might be a bit crowded at times.
A great coffee shop. I love both indoor and outdoor spaces. The prices are very reasonable and the service is great. I would visit here again
Coffee 10/10
Vibe 12/10
Service 10/10
Coffee is the best I’ve had in LA. I’m personally a fan of darker, bolder, earthier coffee and this doesn’t disappoint. Pastries are pretty good as well. The vibe in the back is amazing especially if you appreciate plants and ample seating!
The coffee was very good.
The terrace was quite large and had a nice atmosphere.
